Yes, Extras should be stable.

With Zope and Plone the situation is a bit tricky. Aurelien Bompard, the
maintainer, wasn't aware that freshly released upstream Zope 2.8 will
not play with Plone 2.0x (or even vice versa - CMF 1.4, on which Plone
2.0 and 2.1 base up, isn't fully compatible with changes in Zope 2.8) -
at least he was surprised when I mailed him last week after seeing the
new package in the Extras list. On the other hand, Zope 2.7 isn't
supported (means Zope folks will refuse to help much if you face severe
problems) nor tested with Python 2.4. Zope 2.8 and 2.7 will coexist
upstream and will 2.7 will be further maintained, so 2.8 does no
obsolete the previous version.
