Yes, Extras should be stable. With Zope and Plone the situation is a bit tricky. Aurelien Bompard, the maintainer, wasn't aware that freshly released upstream Zope 2.8 will not play with Plone 2.0x (or even vice versa - CMF 1.4, on which Plone 2.0 and 2.1 base up, isn't fully compatible with changes in Zope 2.8) - at least he was surprised when I mailed him last week after seeing the new package in the Extras list. On the other hand, Zope 2.7 isn't supported (means Zope folks will refuse to help much if you face severe problems) nor tested with Python 2.4. Zope 2.8 and 2.7 will coexist upstream and will 2.7 will be further maintained, so 2.8 does no obsolete the previous version.
