The ATI Linux drivers were a disaster for me. All kinds of problems. But the 
Livna site has great ATI drivers - they are easy to install but you do have 
to update a module each time there's a kernel upgrade. It's a pretty painless 
process, and the time I did it, they had the modules up within hours after 
the kernel release. The instructions are very good by the way.
