You might check out http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/.
Planet CCRMA has a wealth of open source audio, video programs and a
low-latency kernel for FC-3.  Audacity is included in their
distribution.  I agree with Robin on that recommendation.  Also on
warnings about lossy compression formats.
