The /etc/aliases file has a lot of aliases in it that are set there by default. Are all of them necessary? In particular, I don't want to erase any of the aliases that are used by various programs on the server. I've looked on the net for a summary of these aliases, but to no avail Can someone let me know where I can find this or perhaps enlighten me on which aliases are necessary for the system?

Thanks!
Corey

It depends what you have installed.
a lot would be for RFC-Compliancy, i.e. webmaster/postmaster etc..

Out of interest, is there any reason you wish to remove some? ... I've never found a reason to reduce/start playing with alias' file, other than adding new ones...

I'm suddenly getting lots of Viagra and Breast Enlargement SPAM on addresses like 'web' and 'mail' at my server. I'd like to block them out when possible. If the aliases are needed however, then I can start to play with spamassassin or something like that.
Thanks,
Corey
