My /etc/modprobe.conf: alias eth0 tg3 alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx options snd-card-0 index=0 install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || : remove snd-via82xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx alias usb-controller ehci-hcd alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394 After ifconfig eth0 up: [root@ferrari ~]# ifconfig eth0 up [root@ferrari ~]# Yes I tried configuring via system-config-network, but everything looks fine for a newbie like me ;-) 'eth0' is listed in 'Devices' but is set 'inactive', if you try to activate it ... Determining IP information for eth0...PING 192.168.178.1 (192.168.178.1) 56(84) bytes of data. --- 192.168.178.1 ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 2998ms , pipe 4 failed. In 'Hardware' the right card name is listed. In 'DNS' the IP of my router is typed in (not typed in by me, but it is the right one). Do you think you can help? I am trying to fix this for nice piece of time now, but nobody was able to help. Maybe I should read some stuff about Linux/fedora's hardware/module structure. Do you know any articles?
