trying to get gnome to run...

hi...

i'm trying to get gnome/vnc to run... how can i tell if gnome is running
correctly? is there a way to 'clean' off gnome, and to reinstall it?

i have fc3, and just finished doing a 'yum update' which i assumed would
have correctly installed the requisite rpm packages...

i did see some gnome errors/wrnings as yum was installing, but i couldn't
tell what they were, or what they were referring to...

when i connect using vnc, i simply get what appears to be a grey looking
window, with the 'Fedora Core' dialog/display window. it appears to be a
standard x-window, but i only have the 'x' mouse pointer, and a single
xterm/command window... i have no other menus, or icons...

any thoughts/ideas as to what might be going on with this...

thanks
