Just forget the "stupid" advise to harden Sendmail against hackers by modifying the greeting banner. Only fools expect they could make their system more safe by hiding version numbers. Speaking about Sendmail the howto guy misses that he would have to patch the Sendmail sources as well to hide the version from HELP command. And more general, hackers don't care for version numbers ... they run their exploits against victim hosts and see where it hits. > [root@physstud root]# m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf > /etc/mail/sendmail.mc:8: m4: Cannot open > /usr/share/sendmail-cf/m4/cf.m4: No such file or directory > > I don't know how to make an m4 file. Could somebody give me a hand? Has been said already: sendmail-cf is needed to be able to create a new sendmail.cf from a modified sendmail.mc. > William Alexander -- Alexander Dalloz | Enger, Germany | GPG http://pgp.mit.edu 0xB366A773 legal statement: http://www.uni-x.org/legal.html Fedora Core 2 GNU/Linux on Athlon with kernel 2.6.11-1.14_FC2smp Serendipity 05:12:46 up 1:53, 18 users, 0.24, 0.45, 1.70
