Re: network stalls on Fedora Core 3

Thanks for the feedback.

I think this problem is different. The remote server is inside our intranet, but it is at a remote location, which we are connected to via a T1.

I have two other computers on the same subnet that are running Red Hat Linux 3 and they do not experience this problem at all. One of these computers is identical to the one that is experiencing the network stall, i.e., same motherboard, processor and network card. The network card is a "3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado]".

This is weird. Since I have tried a different card, different cable and different port on the switch, I am wondering if it has to do with the network driver in FC3.

I am wondering if this problem could be caused by other hardware in the system? I have checked dmesg and /var/log/messages, but I can't find any errors.

Thanks for the feedback.

Folks,

I am encountering a random problem where network (100BaseT ethernet) connections stall when downloading files. I first noticed a problem when updating my system using up2date. I discovered the update process would hang.

I am now seeing the network stalling when I am downloading a large file, roughly 41MB, using scp. The point at which it stalls is random and it doesn't always stall (but it usually does.) When it stalls, it usually stalls after 20-30MB have been transferred.

I have Fedora Core 3 installed. I had originally installed Fedora Core 2 and upgraded to 3.

I have already tried the following:

- different network cable
- different port on the switch
- different network card, including a different type of card

I even changed out the mouse from a ps/2 to a USB.

Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to correct would be really appreciated. Or ideas on where to look for troubleshooting ideas.

Thanks,
Keith

This happens to me all the time. I assume it has to do with the servers business. If you are going to a server that is serving a large number of requests, that is the time I see this happening. ======================================================================= Dijkstra probably hates me (Linus Torvalds, in kernel/sched.c) ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University One Trinity Place.
