In order for yum to satisfy dependencies it needs access to a
repository with the disto's base-line packages.

Kate, add this file, fedora.repo, to your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory:

# file: fedora.repo
[base]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
#baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/$releasever/$basearch/os/
mirrorlist=http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/fedora-core-$releasever
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1

Kate, is your Fedora Core installation a fresh/new install or did you
upgrade from an older release?
