Have you tried booting your system with the rescue CD?  If you have the 
CD and it will boot the system, you could then edit /etc/inittab on your 
harddrive to provide for booting into a console window

/etc/inittab
id:3:initdefault

Then working from cli you might be able to  run system-config-display 
and configure to something that will allow use of the X window system.
