install xp use partition magic to make space at the end of the drive use partition magic to format the space ext2
Why not just tell WinXP installer to leave some unpartitioned space on the disk? Then you can skip the additional steps to resize the Windows partition.
Then load winblows -winblows won't even see the type 82 and 83. Therfore it will not even try to load anything there.
Then Linux and set grub to see the winblows partition. No addtional money or trip to the store.
Open Source solution!
By the way "Acronis" is a Linux friendly partition program. I think it is based on a Linux boot disc.
It even will fornat ext2, ext3 and several others. However, it does cost something.
