00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA Controller (rev 03)
(prog-if 80 [Master])

I have some (newbie) questions. I thought my CD/DVD drive was a normal PATA
drive. Why does it show up as /dev/hdx instead of /dev/sdx like my SATA
hard drive? I thought IDE described PATA devices only?

Thanks for the info.

I believe the PX-716A is a normal PATA drive. (the cable kind of gives it away. :) )

Mine shows up as /dev/hda as well. The sdx convention indicates a SATA
type drive so the 716A would not show up as that type.

There is a SATA version of this drive, but then it's called the PX716SA..... So you needn't open the case to look at the cable :-)

Kind regards, Angelo
