Hello Paul ,
thanx for the suggestion , I tried it and got stuck at the next step :(
there is a file in one of the cd , the file name is
kernel-2.6.9_1.667.src.rpm , I assume its the kernel source code.
I tried to extract the source code by following command
rpm -ihv ../SRPMS/kernel-2.6.9_1.667.src.rpm
  I got the following output
warning :../SRPMS/kernel-2.6.9_1.667.src.rpm: V3 DSA singature : NOKEY
, Key id 4f2a6fd2
1. Kernel ############################################## [100 %]

Then I tried the following command
rpm -K --nosignature --nodigest ../SRPMS/kernel-2.6.9_1.667.src.rpm

I got the following output
 ../SRPMS/kernel-2.6.9_1.667.src.rpm : ok

but I didnt see any extracted source code file anywhere. What is it
that I am doing wrong ???

Also can I extract the kernel source in any directory , or I have to
do it in /usr/src only.
I am trying to learn how to compile a linux kernel.

thanx and regards
Kuldeep
rpm -K --nosignature
