umounting my hard drive using the FC3 'rescue DC'

hi...

if i use the FC3 rescue CD, can i use parted to make partition changes to
the root partition on the /dev/hda hard drive? or do i have to go through
the process of making/using bootdisks with the image files (partboot.img,
partroot.img)

i'm trying to do a 'parted resize 3 a b' and i get an error msg stating
'incompatible feature enabled'. various sites point to this being an issue
with the 'dir_index' being enabled for the partition.

i tried doing a 'tune2fs -O ^dir_index /dev/hda', as well as 'tune2fs -O
^dir_index /dev/hda5' with no luck.. it might be because i didn't use the
tune2fs command correctly.

any ideas...
