thanks for the advice i use grub boot loader is there a way i can backup the loader to restore it when a problems occurs after the conversion ?
There should be no problem with grub since grub cannot read NTFS partitions anyway (and hence cannot be using your NTFS partition). However, see Carsten's post earlier for a way of creating a grub boot floppy for your system.
