First off, this is my sound hardware:

00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07).

I can start gnome-sound-recorder and record a short clip (< 10s) through
my mic. There is initially a short drop-out when I play back the
recording, but otherwise it sounds fine. The app reports an insane time
of 13 hours 31 minutes 35 seconds, however.

When I try playing it back again, it fails with:

Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug.

I checked for this in the gstreamer and gnome-media bugzillas, but came
up empty. It is also impossible to save the file, even before the error
occurs.

The upshot? Dont' expect it to work, even if you have alsa-supported
hardware.
