Well, I was trying to upgrade Python for a Plone CMS system that
required it when all of this weird stuff happened. How do I reinstall
pygtk2?

Yes indeed -- and enlightening. Do you have pygtk2 installed? That's
where
the gobject module comes from.

If not, any idea how that happened, since all of the system-config-* GUI
packages require it....?
