With 2 machines I even would say it is not necessary. Stick with the /etc/hosts file. The hosts file on Fedora is properly. Do the same with the hosts file on the Windows® machine. > ping it works from both machine, > but win2000 don't resolve names. > > on win2000 network configuration is: > ip : 192.168.0.2 > gateway : 192.168.0.1 > netmask : 255.255.255.0 > 1st dns : 192.168.0.1 You did set to request an DNS server on the Fedora machine. > wins : 192.168.0.1 The Fedora machine is a WINS server? It must print out the DNS information for your local net. Else your DNS is not setup properly. > Please, can someone, tell me where is the right way ? > > Now I would try to implement DNS. > In /etc/resolvconf there are only configuration for > localhost: > declaration of directory for zone, > defintion of zone ".", "localhost" and "0.0.127.in-addrf-arpa" The local zone is not your custom home zone "bear.net". > Why DNS not works ?? Misconfigured. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single/DNS-HOWTO.html I would simply run with /etc/hosts file and not setup bind when just having 2 machines. Else you intend to learn about DNS. Then your way should go starting with above howto and explanations. > bye by fellons Alexander -- Alexander Dalloz | Enger, Germany | GPG http://pgp.mit.edu 0xB366A773 legal statement: http://www.uni-x.org/legal.html Fedora Core 2 GNU/Linux on Athlon with kernel 2.6.10-1.14_FC2smp Serendipity 23:51:59 up 8 days, 11:00, load average: 0.68, 0.75, 0.65
