If you want PCI Express for future compatibility or for high-speed non-graphics peripherals (Ethernet, SCSI, etc) AND you don't mind an older, slow, video card, then you should be able to plug in a (non Express) PCI Radeon card (9250 or lower) and have it Just Work with the built-in drivers. I'm currently running such a system (Athlon 64 3200, NForce 4, PCI Radeon 9250). My experiences are: * You can get this working. * The PCI Radeon I've got is seriously *picky* about the rest of the system. It doesn't work at all with my old BX-based motherboard (this may be because the BX is PCI 2.1 and the Radeon PCI 2.2: I never thought that would make a difference, but apparently it does). It will work in the NForce 4, but you have to put it in the right PCI slot). * I've been having freezes when in X Windows with full acceleration. Turning off ACPI seems to solve that, but I haven't really used it enough in X since I made that change to be sure about it. Is my sigmonster trying to tell me something?
