David, Thanks for your response. The icon you describe is linked to gnome-file-types-properties. It does not exist on my system. According to my Googling it is provided by the control-center rpm but doesn't seem to be the case with Core 3. I've looked on Core 2 and Tao Linux and it's there. All the documentation points toward using it to set the default icon for different file types. I can right click on each individual file and set them but it's a pain.
