The program you are looking for is either xdm, or more likely gdm or kdm.

But before you go off looking for that, take a look at the file called 
"/etc/inittab". In the first few lines, you should see something like this:


id:3:initdefault:


If it just like that, with a 3, change the 3 to a 5.

That changes the default run level to 5, which should cause the machine to go 
into the GUI login screen.
