You could try DamnSmallLinux, (www.damnsmalllinux.org) It is a live CD system that does not require a hard disk at all, but it will install nicely on a small hard drive if that is your wish. I've had it installed and running on a 300 MB drive. You need to have 16 MB or more of RAM in order to do this, though. Hope this was useful.
