seeing as how i was the original questioner i would like to put in my two newbie cents. it took me a while (and here i will show my true inexperience, i'm sure) as i had to run the applications>>sys tools>> internet configuration wizard select my ethernet card, then statically set my IP address subnet mask and default gateway address (the last of which is the router address i learned). only then could i stop the infernal error message "cannot access the network address 192.168.1.x" in my browser and actually enter the router set-up page from which Jim so wonderfully helped me thru the rest of it which would have taken me hours and days of hit and miss. so thank you and that i am typing this on my linux box is proof positive that he did such a wonderful job.
