Actually http://mirror.linux.duke.edu/pub/linux/fedora/core doesn't
exist either, as a quick browse demonstrates.

Try http://mirror.linux.duke.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/3/i386/os/
instead, which works OK with either one or two slashes after the
hostname.
