service cups-config-daemon stop
This is provided by hal-cups-utils. If it works to prevent it from
restarting next time you reboot do a "chkconfig cups-config-daemon off"
Thank you. That seems to stop the problem. I'll file a report in
bugzilla once I find a good test scenario. Right now it's hard for
me to reproduce reliably -- seems to happen mostly when I'm already
annoyed about something.
