You probably want to kill the automount daemon (autofs?)
For adjusting audio levels, I use mp3gain. It is lossless, and it is open source, but I don't know if it will compile on linux.

BTW, do someone know of a program or procedure that will allow me to determine a correct 'recording' level using ogg and grip? On recordings of very dynamic music, the resulting .ogg has a small, but immensely irritating klipping sound in the most powerful parts. (Example from the top of my head, though probably not useful: Nils Petter Molvaer - Solid Ether)
I could start using lame instead of ogg, if that makes a difference(?)
Thanks in advance!
