I had tried this as well. No luck
Upgrading to FC3 has not been a positive experience. NO sound, had to reformat my 2nd disk which had all my backups from RH8 so I can't migrate back. Looks like I'll have to invest in a sound card to listen to net radio or play cd's

you can try this simple patch (#1 as root)
(#2 cd/etc/hotplug)
(#3 vi black list) (#4 add snd-intel8x0m to the bottom of blacklist file)
(#5 reboot and your sound hopefully will be working)
