This sound much closer to what I was hoping for. A little more manual intervention than I am comfortable with, but workable I think.
The real trick as far as I can tell, would be if I could use VNC to connect to a session running in kiosk mode with the VNC session running in full screen.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
