Nope, JTAG needs some active silicon to work, and the presence or absence of a passive connector can't be detected that way either. Many motherboard assets like Ethernet, Audio, etc are connected by PCI but do not take up a slot. Unless the BIOS has a field somewhere that specifies it, and then one wonders how trustworthy that data would be on any given motherboard, I don't think the number of [filled|empty] slots can be detected either. - -Andy - -- http://www.addintelligence.co.uk -- we design custom hardware and software for your products -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFB7N3PjKeDCxMJCTIRAr8jAJ9U/ymwKV35I72WkNU/FVx1yjdyXACdGCY8 OSWFCd0BYQ8J/aypqRbe1Gc= =Xay5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
