Did you have a look at the hosts file?

$ cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.2             beta.foo.bar beta

As an example, as you don't give any information about your host (IP and
hostname+domain).
