The version information *is* there, it's just not obvious.

USB 2.0 adapters use EHCI...

Besides, PIIX4 dates back to the Intel 440BX/LX/ZX/DX days, well before
USB2.

But I very much doubt you'd break anything if you tried connecting it.
It should just connect at merely 12 Mbit/s. Whether the camcorder would
send anything over that speed I don't know.
