From my other FC3 client I can connect but all I get is a blank 1024 X 768 screen. I can open Xterm in this but I do not see the remote X-Windows desktop. I have been through the docs, but as relative newbie I must be missing something repeatedly.

In your .vnc/xstartup file comment out this:
#twm &
And add this:
exec /etc/kde/kdm/Xsession
Kill and restart the vncserver, and you will see your default window manager desktop though not the actual desktop of the terminal..
