How is the boot order set in the bios? Maybe you need to change to make the box see the atapi drive as the first device. Also if this is on a network make sure it isn't trying something like 'network boot' and getting hung up there, turn the nic off if you have one of those newfangled ones with the PxE chip. I would recommend sniffing around in the bios to see whatever else might need to be enabled or disabled.
