gotta buy a new firewire enclosure.

the chipset in there doesn't do the extended 48-bit ide protocol
thing. forget the exact name.  I don't think that's the sort of thing
you could firmware upgrade.  not at least that I've seen.  I instead
upgraded to a usb2.0 enclosure.
