Ok, further investigation on the web has show that the place for environment variables to be set globally is /etc/profile.

I have put debugging code in here and found the exact section that is causing the output.

Can somebody now tell me how to turn off echo while this section is running?

Thanks,
Andoni.

Subject: Global startup file?

Hello,

I have just installed Java 1.5 on my FC3 system and now every time any user logs in there is a whole stream of statements like:

declare -x BLAHNAME="blahvalue"

Can somebody tell me where I put such things that I want to be run for all users. And what I can put into this to stop echoing to the screen.

Thanks in advance,
Andoni OConchubhair.
