I DID read all the FAQ, searched GOOGLE for MP-boot and > nothing I found was of help or value. Sheesh. Anyone have > any pointers, please? --- Normal BIOS would locate MBR in /dev/hda boot blocks. This is the Primary Controller, Master If Windows 98 is installed on that disk, then that is where you should install grub. During install, grub should recognize the Windows 98 partition and create an entry in /boot/grub/grub.conf allowing you the choice of which to boot. Your /boot directory could be in any partition in any drive because that is the next stage of booting and is located by the grub-install /dev/hda I think if you boot 'linux rescue' - chroot /mnt/sysimage or whatever it's called (I've forgotten) and then grub-install /dev/hda - you should be OK and if for some reason you can't boot the Windows 98, then you can fix that in /boot/grub/grub.conf Craig
