ummm, There is no file "/etc/hostname"

As root:
Modify the contents of the file "/etc/sysconfig/network"
so that one line reads:
HOSTNAME=MYHOSTNAME

Where MYHOSTNAME is the name you want your machine to have

Then issue the command "service network restart"

Here is a sample /etc/sysconfig/network file:
NETWORKING=yes
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet
HOSTNAME=MYHOSTNAME
USERCTL=no
PEERDNS=no
