This provides the most detailed X display of devices that I have ever
experienced in Linux. Perhaps my mini "eureka" is something that I
should have known all along but I've never seen it mentioned in this
forum.
Since you mentioned it, I went hunting for it and somehow I'd managed
not to install it. So, I then did an apt-get install hal-gnome and got
it from Fedora *updates*.
