Not to mention the problem with evo having the default email composed
for mail from each of the multiple accounts, instead of mail from acct
a being composed w/ acct a address and like for other accounts.

Actually Evolution is much like Oulook (2000) behaves in "Corporate
Mode". In IMO (Internet Mail Only) mode you *could* in fact have a
separate inbox/account for each POP address. I know . I had just such
a setup for several years with Outlook.
