I did update the kernel, but still had the problem. I have found the solution. After upgrading the kernel with yum update, I needed to update /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/modules to reflect megaraid_mbox instead of megaraid. Then remake the initrd. I found an incedent on the dell site of the same thing updating FC2 to kernel 2.6.9-1.3-FC2. My 2600 is now running.
