Quite. In the first two cases, the way to go is probably not to post at
all.
(In the "wrong URL" case, then only the wrong URL plus a bit of context
needs to be quoted).
If readers are going to "have to scroll through endless pages of
untrimmed posting", there's no point in having it there in the first
place.
