I bet your sound card was found but you did not hear the test sound. If that is true then what you need to do is the following: add snd-intel8x0m to the /etc/hotplug/blacklist then reboot. I had the same problem with the sound card in my laptop. Once I made the changes above it solved it. Once rebooted check your sound levels. use alsamixer to see where they are set.
