If you have new rw media you may need to format it first. You need the
dvd+rw-tools package.

# dvd+rw-format /dev/cdwriter

Paul,
In trying your suggestion I get

"[david@reddwarf ~]$ sudo dvd+rw-format /dev/hdc
* DVDRW/-RAM format utility by <appro@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, version 4.10.
:-( mounted media doesn't appear to be DVDRW or DVD-RAM

I tried with '/dev/cdwriter /media/cdrecoder /dev/hdc' and had the same responce.

Thanks david

What is the output of dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/hdc ? Maybe the media is bad.

Kevin
       Output

[david@reddwarf ~]$ sudo dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/hdc
INQUIRY: [PIONEER ][DVD-RW DVR-108 ][1.06]
GET [CURRENT] CONFIGURATION:
:-( no media mounted, exiting...

[david@reddwarf ~]$ sudo mount /media/cdrecorder
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: /dev/hdc: can't read superblock

ran your request first with the DVD+RW that I'm trying to blank
(FC3 t3) when I burnt it the md5sum was good but didn't test with
media check as I got FC3 and used that.

Thanks david
