dell 5000: configuring X: install vs. runtime

I've successfully installed FC on a dell 5000, and the install just
used the graphics - X - install. Everything just pretty much worked,
even suspend (classic apm). But now that i've rebooted, the screen
remains black... No X.

any suggestions?
