Maybe this would help for Pilot and Palm, and init 3 issue:

My Pc works fine, too. I installed FC3 in other partition, tarred my
profile (/home/rodolfoap/) and untarred it at the new location

Or, short version:

# yum update 

(fixes udev bug). REBOOT. Then create /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules
file so it looks like:

# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules
KERNEL="ttyUSB1",SYMLINK="pilot"

I thought the same way, but pressing ALT-F1 I have the term. Looks like
that is a messages window.
