Yum does do the dependency resolution - and download/install the
required packages. What errors do you get? If you post the errors -
you'll get more help.

Most-likely you are installing bad/Non-FC2 rpm on a FC2 box - and yum
is correctly rejecting it.

The alternatives to yum are 'up2date', 'apt'
