I am attempting to upgrade a Red Hat 8.0 system to Fedora Core 2 using the install CD images from the website. The current system is a stock install with most updates (until 8.0 was EOL'd) and very little or no custom software or third party software installed.
During the upgrade everything works until the installer displays "Preparing RPM Transaction" at which point the installer terminates and the system shuts down. The upgrade log has plenty of detail about upgrading dependancies followed by packages to be upgraded and ends with:
The following packages were available in this version but NOT upgraded: Upgrading comps-8.0-0.20020910.
The only other errors in the upgrade log all look like:
OMF file [/usr/share/omf/glade/turbo-start-C.omf] does not validate against Scro
llKeeper-OMF DTD: /usr/share/xml/scrollkeeper/dtds/scrollkeeper-omf.dtd
Does anyone know why the installer is crashing and/or how to prevent that from happening?
Cheers,
Check to see if your BIOS is updated! This caused my computer with A7V8X-X mobo to prevent installation of anything after RH8. RH8 would go on there, but nothing later would. After I updated the BIOS, my installation problems evaporated.
Hope this helps, Clint
