Thanks, guys, for your help. I was making that silly mistake of burning the CD as a file instead of as an image. Duh!

I was able to boot up the PC using FC2 disc1 and ran mediacheck. It failed. Hmmm... Didn't say why, and I'm wondering how significant this may be. I'll try re-burning, but I hate to have to re-download the ISO files. Was wondering if it matters that I've tried re-writing to this single CD disc many times before (to try to burn this image). Could that be a problem? Should I use a fresh disc?

You can check your downloaded ISO image by checking its md5sum. If that's right, there's no point redownloading the ISO. Just try reburning the CD at the slowest possible speed your writer can manage.
