I think the only problem is really that the fans are always at maximum speed, and the only way to control is with awful proprietary drivers.
I'm running FC2 on a DL380. It never occurred to me that the fans might be speed-controllable. Fortunately the box is in a lights-out office so I don't have to listen to them. And the ILO feature means I can select an alternate kernel at boot time over the ILO network interface.
