Given my own experience I doubt that the simple install of gimp-2.0
caused your problems.

I am using gimp-2.0.4-0.fc2.1 and gimp-print-4.2.7-1 (plus of course the
necessary additional packages) and can print without problems from gimp
to an HP Laserjet 6MP and an Epson Stylus Photo R200.

(with one caveat: the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo R200 is
 not of sufficient quality for printing photos).
